Dinosaur Fossils!
31 August 2012

Create these dinosaur fossils using plaster of paris.

File 3856

Follow the directions on the plaster of paris tub to make the plaster. We added edicol dye to the mixture to add more colour. The plaster of paris was poured into little round trays (we first put down a layer of gladwrap to make it easier to remove the fossil when dry). Students selected their dinosaur of choice and pressed it into the plaster. (Dont leave it in there too long as the plaster sets quite quickly!) While still wet we poked a hole through the top so they would be easy to hang.)

Students were amazed at the detail of print that was left in the plaster!

What does it start with...
29 August 2012

Don't forget about our What does it start with... books.

Students trace the letter, saying the sound it make each time they trace it. They then ge to colour in the pictures that start with that sound.

Use this booklet with your class when introducing the alphabet or I used it for my weaker group to have a little more practise during literacy rotations.

I moustache you...
27 August 2012

I moustache you... did you realise that it is Fathers Day (here in Australia) this weekend? Where is this year going? It has totally caught me on the hop this year and I have been left with only 1 week (which equals 2 Kindy days!!) to work my magic and create a pva masterpiece!

The dads in our class will each be receiving a trophy, nuts and bolts snack mix and an adorable card. These items are super cute and also EASY to make which is vital when you only have 2 days to do it in (and the Kindy kids work at a snails pace!) They will also be invited in for some afternoon activities and a little concert.

You can download your moustache template here.

How hilarious is my Kindy teaching partner!! This is an example of the type of photo that is on the front of the card, with writing above that read 'I moustache you...'

The inside of the card reads 'Did you know I love you this much?' with 2 arms that spread out from each side of the card with a hand print on the end. The Kindy kids will then trace over dotted writing which reads, 'Dear ______ Happy Fathers Day 2012, Love from ______'. You can download your own template for this card by following this link. I have added a few varieties of inside pages - choose the one that suits your students needs and ability best. The cover is also in the same file, once you have selected your inside page simply print and then photocopy them both onto A3 card and fold in half. Voila! The arms are made by cutting an A4 page in quarters length ways, we then glued them onto the inside of the card. Get your copy of the card template here.

****A copy of the finished product will be added to this blog post very soon!!***

Nuts & Bolts snack mix

File 3889

This is a really easy savoury snack to make that the dads will love to eat. We used this recipe from www.taste.com.au and duplicated it three times so that there would be enough for each dad.

After it cooled we packaged it up in cellophane and attached this tag to it.

Father's Day Trophy

File 3927

The trophy is a "pinspiration" and was really easy to make. Unfortunately the link has been blocked via Pinterest due to spam??? I have added the photo below and it is pretty self explanatory... We painted clear cups with gold paint and the hot glued them together. The lettering is made of foam alphabet pieces. I didn't have enough "D's" for all of the trophies to say #1 Dad so there are a few different sayings on the trophies including 'my hero, I [heart} you, #1 Dad and top Dad'. The students then drew and cut out their own handles to give the trophies some personality!

We also have a Fathers Day questionaire available to download.

Guaranteed to get a few good laughs! Download your copy here

Phew! I think that's all for now... Thank goodness we only have Christmas left to get through! We would love to hear about how your class is celebrating Fathers Day this year. Share your ideas with us on our Facebook page.

The Big Brachiosaurus
27 August 2012

Create this easy Brachiosaurus craft with your students using a paper plate!

We found this great idea from kids craft weekly!

We had our lovely EA quickly draw these onto our paper plates ready for students to cut out.

Before cutting them we painted the paper plate and let it dry.

File 3834

Once they were cut out we assembled them using a stapler.

File 3847

We created trees so the Brachiosaurus is up on it's back legs eating leaves from a tall tree.

We also completed a short sentence to go with our Brachiosaurus craft.
