In this activity students create words from different word families. This activity is great to help student blend sounds together to make words and practise writing them down.

I have a collection of spoons each with a different consonant written onto it. 

They place the spoon in front of each word family and see if it creates a real word. If it creates a real word they write it down. After checking all word families they choose a new spoon. 

I laminate the word family sheets to keep and use during my literacy rotations. 

You can either use the whole sheet or slice the sheet up into rows and only use as many words families as you want.
