Use these keyboard templates to help your students learn where the letters are on a keyboard and become faster typers.

There are 2 versions -

1 - This one has yellow spots to show students where to place their hands and a little box telling them to remember to have their fingers in home position ready to start

2 - This one is the beginners version and has no yellow spots.

Some ways we use keyboard templates are:

(as my students are only just beginnng to type we only used the simple boards

  • I gave the students sight word cards and thehy had to find the letters and show me how they could type the word.

  • Once they could do that they were able to write the word.

  • They were asked to first type the word and then they had to write the word in uppercase letters like on the keyboard.
File 3450
  • I called out a sight word or spelling word and students had to find the letters on the keyboard.
  • We have little competitons to type the word first when I call it out. The kids love it!

  • They then had to write the word in uppercase letters like those on the keyboard.
  • You may like to print out short phrases or sentences for your students to practise with when they get more advanced.

Using these boards has really helped my students who have never typed on a keybaord before become more confident. The challenge of coverting their knowledge of lowecase to uppercase letters is tricky for some and this has allowed them to practise finding the uppercase letters a lot quicker. Soon we can move onto short phrases and focus on how to use capitals, spaces and full stops!

'Remember keep calm and pretend it's on the lesson plan!'
