While doing our under the sea theme we read the story 'Who Sank the Boat' by Pamela Allen and thought we would try and create our own boats to hold all of the animals from the story. |

We talked about what things their boats might need to be able to hold all of the animals and then students used different construction materials to create their own.
Once creating their boats they filled out a sheet which asked them to predict whether their boat would be able to float and hold all of the animals. They had to colour in the smiley face or sad face. Download this sheet here | |
Here are some photos of the students boats and and then next to it is a photo of the boat in the water trolley holding or 'attempting' to hold the animals form the story (We used little toy farm animals)

| After they tested their boats out they looked at their prediction and whether they were right or wrong. They then coloured in the smiley face or sad face show if their prediction was right or wrong. As a class we then talked about what features of peoples boats helped them to float and what we would use if we made the boats again. Their answer was added to the bottom of their sheet |
Students loved making their boats and luckily we had no tears when their boats did not float!
