Word Family Tree

Use the leaf template to create a tree to place your word family words onto. 

I enlarged the leaf template to A3 and then copied it onto 3 different kinds of green card. Using brown card I created the tree trunk and blu tacked the trunk and leaves to the wall.

For my spelling program with my 5 year olds I introduce a new word family each week and the words we learn are placed onto a leaf on the tree. On the leaf I place the word famil title, the words and a image. 

There are now 10 different word families - at, et, ip, ot, um, am, en, in, op, ug

We refer to this tree during writing sessions and when revising word families. My students love to go up to the tree and see if they can remember how to read all the words or use it to assist them when writing at the writing table.
