Making Memories on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is fast approaching! How is it almost May already? 😱

Celebrated in Australia each year on the second Sunday in May, Mother’s Day acknowledges all the incredible mother figures in our lives. It’s an opportunity to explore the importance of mother figures with your students, celebrate the people in their lives and create some incredible pieces of work (with the help of Top Teacher, of course!) 💛

In this blog, we’ll dive deep into some of our top recommendations for activities and resources to use with your Early Years to Year 6 classes. Mother’s Day can be a source of stress for educators as we work hard to make the day memorable for our students and their families, so we’ve worked hard to make our resources as simple and low-prep as possible!

There’s nothing better than presenting Mum with a gorgeous, handmade gift straight from the heart 💛 Make memories that will last a lifetime with these super simple project ideas!

💛 You Light Up My World: Mother’s Day Fingerprint Art (pictured): This adorable art display will live on the fridge for years to come! Simply dip student fingers in poster paint and press their fingerprints onto each firefly to create a gorgeous, bright art project. You could use this activity as a cover for a card, experiment with glow-in-the-dark paint for a truly unique effect or even ask students to count the fireflies as they paint them for an easy Early Years cross-curricular activity. We also have matching gift tags available for download which you can use to pair this craft with a physical gift!

💛 Mother’s Day Voucher Card: This card doubles as a heartfelt gift that students can create by designing vouchers entitling their mums or mother figures to a variety of special treats! Does she like foot rubs? Cups of tea? Bubble baths? Your students can customise their vouchers to include all of their person’s personal favourite things.

💛 Mother’s Day Plant Gift Tag: Have students grow a small plant from some seeds, cuttings or seedlings. Attach this gift tag to a popstick and stick it straight into the soil for a super cute and memorable present! This makes for a great cross-curricular task in Science. You could also extend this task by having your students paint terracotta pots to plant their seedlings in!

💛 Sugar Scrub Recipe & Tags: Studying procedures? You’ll love this recipe for a delicious pink lemonade flavoured sugar scrub! This download also includes adorable gift tags you can glue to small jars after making and distributing the sugar scrub. Fun and tasty!

Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to embrace the mess and get into some fun craft activities! 🎨 Your students will love painting, drawing and gluing their way to a stunning Mother’s Day display celebrating the special mother figures in their lives.

💛 Mother’s Day Sun Catcher Craft: This gorgeous craftivity lets students create a beautiful sun-catcher to hang in the window! With options for all different mother figures, students select their preferred frame option, cut out the centre and replace it with a transparent design. Use clear book contact and press collected flowers from your environment onto the sticky side to complete the display. You could also use other transparent materials such as cellophane to create a stained-glass effect!

💛 Mummy & Me Painting: Simply enlarge this frame to A3, print and hang on a classroom easel and let your students’ imaginations run wild! This is one of our most popular Mother’s Day resources year after year and we can see why! With minimal prep, you can help your students to create masterpieces ⭐️

💛 Mother’s Day Badge Craft: Students can cut, glue, draw and paint to create a super cute badge for their mother figure with this resource!
