Description

This resource focuses on students using their knowledge of external features of animals to create an entirely new imaginative animal. This activity aligns with the Foundation Biological Sciences curriculum, involving students in observing external features of plants and animals and describing ways they can be grouped based on these features. Students need to imagine a brand a new animal has been found. It is their job to show other people what this new animal looks like by identifying three external features of the animal. Maybe it has three eyes, a horn growing out of its bottom instead of a tail, wool like a sheep, toes like a human or ears so large they dangle to the ground. Students draw each of the three external features into the circles at the top of the worksheet. They then need to draw the new animal as a whole in the bottom section of the worksheet. You may wish to get the students to present their new animals to the class or create a New Animal display within your classroom. Print on A4 paper, or print on A3 paper for a larger working space.
