Description
Students correctly answer questions to reach the top of the mountain. With each correct response, they climb higher and higher, watching the scenery shift from grassy hills to rocky cliffs and snowy peaks. At the end of their journey, a polaroid snapshot captures how far they made it. This is a cooperative game, and if there is more than one player, they must work together to reach the summit as a team.
This version focuses on understanding and partitioning three-digit numbers. Students practise breaking numbers into hundreds, tens and ones, as well as solving related word problems that reinforce their understanding of place value. The supportive, adventure-style format encourages both persistence and collaboration while building core number skills.
Students are motivated to replay and improve their score, climbing further with each attempt until they finally reach the top of the mountain!
Key Learning Outcomes:
- ✅ Read, write and partition three-digit numbers
- ✅ Identify the value of digits in the hundreds, tens and ones places

How to Play:
- Students are presented with a question involving a three-digit number.
- They solve the question by applying place value strategies, including partitioning and identifying digit values.
- Each correct answer moves them further up the mountain.
- When played in teams, students collaborate to answer correctly and climb together.
- Once all questions are completed, a polaroid snapshot reveals how far they climbed and how many questions they answered correctly.
Ideas for Classroom Use:
- 💡 Use during your place value unit to reinforce understanding of hundreds, tens and ones
- 💡 Great for Year 1–2 students beginning to explore and partition larger numbers
- 💡 Pair with base-ten blocks or expanded form activities for added support before gameplay
- 💡 Encourage teamwork by grouping students for shared gameplay and reflection
Top Teacher Tips:
- 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins
- 💛 Select solo or team mode at the start of the game to support independent or collaborative play
