Use a number line to demonstrate adding two related fractions together.
Students are presented with a number sentence involving fractions. They must determine the starting position on the number line and then make jumps along the line to indicate adding the additional fraction.
Fraction fragments are included on the right side of the page for students to cut out and use to make the jumps along the line. Each fragment aligns correctly with the divisions along the number lines.
There are four versions of this worksheet to assist with differentiation. They include:
- Version 1: Number lines labelled with twelfths.
- Version 2: Number lines labelled with simplified fractions.
- Version 3: Blank number lines
- Version 4: Blank number lines and sums. Students create their own problems.
Print one page per student, or if working in small groups, place a few sheets into write-and-wipe sleeves and reuse them for each group of students.
