This Pet-theme task card activity will surely challenge your students’ critical thinking in adding numbers to 20.

This resource contains 40 interactive task cards that focus on adding numbers to 20. Each card features a pet (cat and dog) and their goal is to reach the finish line with their owners. But before they reach the goal, the pets must hurdle through the maze by solving addition equations.

The goal of this activity is for the students to choose a card and identify the given sum. Then, they will be tasked to mark or cover all the correct equations based on the given sum. Students may use whiteboard markers to draw a line to mark the equations or use small manipulatives (i.e., blocks, buttons, etc.)

You may also use this game to initiate healthy competition among your students by handing them a card and whoever finishes first with the correct pattern marks or covers win.
