Introduce your students to the concept of subtraction using this fun game. To play, students will select a domino and place it above the picnic basket on the game board. They then count out a matching number of counters for the total number of dots on the domino and place the counters in the basket. Then, feed the alien counters to match one side of the domino by placing the counters in the alien's mouth. How many counters are left in the picnic basket? Once students have developed a sound understanding of subtracting/taking away some of the counters, you may like to have them use the recording sheet to document their learning.
