Support your Year 4 students in their History: Experiences of People in Australia’s Past unit of work with the An Epic Expedition task.
Created to coincide with Year 4 History Australian Curriculum, this activity will provide students with the opportunity to investigate the events that took place during the voyages of Dutch explorers who travelled the Australian coastline prior to British settlement.
Students will research the journey of Dirk Hartog or Abel Tasman, who sailed parts of the Australian coast, and use the task sheet to document three significant events that occurred along the way. The layout of the task allows students to draw an illustration of the event, write the relevant date in the grey box and record a short description on the lines provided.
It is recommended to complete this task following the Mapping the Journeys of Hartog and Tasman task. Please note that this resource can also be used as an extension or stand-alone task where students can record the events of another explorer’s voyage.
This activity is part of our Experiences of People in Australia’s Past Year 4 History Unit.
