Are you looking for a fun and open-ended way to reinforce addition skills to 10, 20 or beyond? Our Animal Party Addition worksheets are the resource for you! This fun activity is ideal to completed after reading the picture book, One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab by April Pulley Sayre and Jeff Sayre.

During this activity, students will be motivated to work out a guest list for Snail’s party based on the total number of feet in attendance. This engaging and hands-on set of worksheets will challenge your students to demonstrate their understanding of counting and addition concepts, including partitioning numbers and making combinations to 10, 15, 20, 30, 50 or a number of your choice!

Prior to completing the activity, ensure that students are familiar with the included images and their number of feet:

1. Snail = 1 foot
2. Person = 2 feet
3. Dog = 4 feet
4. Insect = 6 feet
5. Spider = 8 feet
6. Crab = 10 feet

Students can either cut and paste a collection of images that add to the target number or they can draw their own combinations. This versatile activity includes two versions to suit the needs of your class. One allows students to glue or draw pictures that add to the target number. The other provides students with the opportunity to record the addition problems that match the pictures they glued or drew on the page.

Animal Party Addition would be a wonderful way to consolidate skills during a whole class lesson or it could be used as part of small group rotations. To extend your students further, ask them to identify different ways they could reach the target number.
