Description
Step onto the quiz show stage in this high-energy digital game all about balanced equations! Students will work through rounds of one-point, double-point, and triple-point questions as they try to outscore their opponents and make it to the top of the leaderboard.
In this version, students are presented with simple addition and subtraction equations to 10, with a missing number in one part of the equation. Using early algebraic thinking, they must figure out which number makes both sides equal. It’s a great way to reinforce part-part-whole relationships, build reasoning skills, and explore number balance through interactive fun.
The more correct answers, the more points they’ll earn – and at the end, they’ll find out what surprise prize they’ve won!
Key Learning Outcomes:
- ✅ Use number facts to solve missing number problems within 10
- ✅ Understand the concept of equality in addition and subtraction equations
- ✅ Apply algebraic thinking to balance equations
- ✅ Develop reasoning and problem-solving strategies
- ✅ Engage in meaningful maths practise through quiz-style gameplay
How to Play:
- Students are presented with a balanced equation missing one number (e.g. 4 + ? = 6 + 1).
- They must mentally calculate the missing value to balance both sides.
- Rounds progress in difficulty – from one-point questions up to triple-point challenges.
- Correct answers earn points, while incorrect answers move the game to the next question.
- The player with the most points at the end wins a surprise digital prize!
Ideas for Classroom Use:
- 💡 Use during number, algebra or early problem-solving units focused on equation structure
- 💡 Add to fluency rotations for reasoning practise with number facts to 10
- 💡 Great for Year 1–2 students beginning to explore balancing and equality
- 💡 Pair with hands-on balancing scales or number sentence sorting cards for deeper learning
Top Teacher Tips:
- 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins
- 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play
- 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task
