Description

Support your Year 2 students in their Physical Sciences: Investigating Sound unit of work with the Band Builder board game.

 

Created to coincide with the Year 2 Physical Sciences Australian Curriculum, this activity will provide students with the opportunity to apply their understanding of how instruments produce sound (pluck, blow, rub, shake and strike).

 

Players take turns to roll a die and move their playing piece around the board the corresponding number of times. The board has no finishing point, so players can keep moving around the board until they have collected an instrument from each category. When a player lands on a square, they need to identify the instrument and the category it is from. The player then puts a counter on the ‘My Band’ card in the section that matches. The player who places a counter in every section of their ‘My Band’ card first is the winner of the game.

 

The instruments included in the game are: guitar, harp, electric guitar, trumpet, flute, violin, maraca, tambourine, bells, drum, triangle, xylophone and tone blocks.

 

In addition to the printable resource, students will also need access to dice and counters to play the game. The game board, recording cards and reference sheet can be printed on thick card or placed into a write and wipe sleeve for longevity.
