Description

Use this Building Tens and One's resource in your class to help students understand the concept of partitioning 2-digit numbers into counts of tens and ones using manipulatives.

Partitioning numbers is a useful strategy for little learners as it makes working with larger numbers more manageable and allows students to recognise that a 2-digit number can be broken down into tens and ones. For example, they will learn to recognise that 43 is 4 tens and 3 ones.

This resource includes two variations for differentiation. First, students can practise building their chosen number using tens and ones from manipulatives, and they then could extend this further by writing how many tens and how many ones and then in its expanded form.
