Looking for a crafty way to check your students’ counting skills to 10 and beyond? Our adorable Caterpillar Counting Craft is the resource for you!

As well as practising counting, this hands-on activity allows students to practise their fine motor skills as they count out a collection of items to make their caterpillar’s body with and decorate their craft. We recommend providing students with craft materials, such as pom poms or buttons.

In addition to detailed instructions (that include a finished example) and an adorable display banner, this resource includes two options to suit the needs of your class:

1. A crafty cut-and-paste option with a backing template.
2. A worksheet option that is ready to have the caterpillar’s body counted and drawn on or glued to it.

While this activity has been designed for students learning to count to 10, we have included blank versions of the number circles and backing templates if you wish to extend your students further.

Top Teacher Tips:

1. Enlarge the backing templates to A3 to give students plenty of room to assemble and glue their caterpillars.
2. For a pop of colour, print the backing templates on coloured card.
3. Provide craft materials for students to decorate their crafts, such as pom poms or buttons.
