Description

Roll the dice and let the adventure begin! In this interactive board game-style challenge, students move through a vibrant world filled with different landscapes drawn from across the Digi-Games universe. With each roll, they land on new spaces and answer questions to earn points. The more questions they get right, the more treasure they can collect!

This game supports students in making connections between characters and the settings they belong to. For each question, they’ll choose the character that best fits the suggested location, whether it's matching a fairy to an enchanted forest or a pirate to a sandy beach. It’s a fun and engaging way to build understanding of story structure and context.

Let’s Roll – Characters and Settings is ideal for small group rotations or independent literacy practise. With each round, students roll, move, and answer, earning coins of varying point values as they go. At the end of the game, the student with the most points wins!

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Match characters to appropriate story settings
  • ✅ Strengthen narrative comprehension and world-building knowledge
  • ✅ Develop early inference and reasoning skills
  • ✅ Practise identifying setting clues and character traits
  • ✅ Engage in literacy learning through board game-style play

How to Play:

  1. Students roll the dice and move their character along the board.
  2. Each space triggers a question asking which character belongs in a particular setting.
  3. Correct answers earn coins; different sizes and colours are worth different point values.
  4. Occasionally, a special event or treasure chest appears to shake up the round!
  5. Once all questions are completed, the student with the highest point total wins.

Ideas for Classroom Use:

  • 💡 Use as part of a literacy unit on narrative structure and story elements.
  • 💡 Perfect for Early Years to Year 2 students developing setting and character knowledge.
  • 💡 Add to group literacy rotations or independent learning centres.
  • 💡 Extend by having students create their own setting-character matchups or mini stories.

Top Teacher Tips:

  • 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task.
  • 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins.
  • 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play.
