Chemical Sciences Foundation Assessment: Designing Shoes
Description
Support your Foundation students in their Chemical Sciences: Investigating Materials unit of work with this hands-on and engaging assessment task.
Created to coincide with the Foundation Chemical Sciences Australian Curriculum, this investigation will provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of concepts related to materials, in particular, recognising that objects can be composed of different materials and describing the observable properties of those materials (AC9SFU03) and exploring the ways people make and use observations and questions to learn about the natural world (AC9SFH01).
Students will design and make a pair of shoes for a specific purpose. During the investigation, they will compose an inquiry question and make a prediction, make and test a pair of shoes, make observations and come to a conclusion about their shoe’s functionality.
This resource includes templates for students to record their inquiry question, prediction, shoe design, justification, observations and conclusion.
Teachers can assess this task using our Designing Shoes Assessment Rubric. A blank version of this document has also been included.
