Description

You can use this resource to assess your students’ understanding of reversible and irreversible changes.

 

It is part of our Chemical Sciences Year 6 UNIT PLAN and has been designed as an end-of-unit assessment. However, you could also use it as a pre- and post-assessment.

 

The first page of the resource requires students to explain the science behind the Colourful Chemistry Worksheet activity. If you did not complete this activity at the beginning of your unit or if students were absent, you can remove the page from the assessment and just use the second page.

 

Your students need to identify whether the everyday situations provided involve dissolving, burning or evaporating. They then need to explain whether they are reversible or irreversible changes. The assessment also covers Science as a Human Endeavour by asking questions about fizzy drinks and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.

 

When you have decided which pages of the assessment to give to your students, you can print the number of copies required and begin the task. Helpful answer sheets are provided, along with an assessment rubric and a blank version.
