Compare mass using the vocabulary ‘heavier’ and ‘lighter’.

Students will select two object cards from a pile and then decide which one is heavier and which one is lighter. Once decided the object cards are placed on the game mats, featuring either a seesaw or a set of balance scales.

This hands-on activity will help to build students’ fluency and accuracy when comparing the mass of two objects.

You might also like to use only the classroom object cards and have the hands-on items available to measure via hefting.
