Description

First Nations Australians are advised that this task is based on stories of the Stolen Generations.

Help your students to develop their understanding of the Stolen Generations and comprehension skills with the Comparing Storylines & Stories of the Stolen Generations task, which they will complete following the reading of a story, or stories, about the Stolen Generations, such as ‘Sorry Day’ by Coral Vass.

This resource includes two options:

  1. Following the reading of ‘Sorry Day’ by Coral Vass, students can compare the themes, settings, characters, events and illustrations that are presented in the two storylines: one that takes place in the past when First Nations children were forcibly taken from their families and one that takes place in 2008 during the National Apology to the Stolen Generations. Students are guided in making comparisons by the checklist at the bottom of the page.
  2. Following the reading of two stories related to the Stolen Generations, students can compare the themes, settings, characters, events and images that are presented in the texts. Students are guided in making comparisons by the checklist at the bottom of the page.

A blank version of this resource, which can be used with texts of your choice, has been included.

If you require alternate texts related to the Stolen Generations, see the list below.
