Description

Gear up and get ready to defend! In this exciting digital game, students protect their base by identifying and completing simple movement patterns. Each correct answer activates a defensive move, helping them stop the invaders before they reach the base!

Students will observe and interpret patterns made up of actions such as jump, hop, sit, wink etc. These patterns can follow AB or ABC sequences. For example: “Jump, hop, jump, hop... ?” Students must select the correct action to continue the pattern. This game develops early reasoning, sequencing, and pattern recognition in a high-energy, movement-based context.

Can your students defend the base and stop the invaders in time?

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Identify and continue simple AB and ABC patterns
  • ✅ Recognise and predict sequences in movement-based actions
  • ✅ Strengthen pattern recognition and sequencing skills
  • ✅ Develop early mathematical thinking through visual and kinaesthetic learning
  • ✅ Engage in interactive, fast-paced gameplay linked to foundational number concepts

How to Play:

  1. Students are shown a movement pattern and asked to select the next action from multiple choices.
  2. A correct answer activates a defence move to block incoming enemies.
  3. Incorrect answers allow invaders to get closer to the base.
  4. The game continues through a series of questions focused on movement sequences.
  5. Students try to stop as many invaders as possible before the final wave!

Ideas for Classroom Use:

  • 💡 Use during maths lessons on patterns or PE warm-ups to reinforce movement sequences
  • 💡 Perfect for Early Years–Year 1 students developing early logic and reasoning skills
  • 💡 Follow up with a hands-on task where students act out or draw their own movement patterns
  • 💡 Include in rotations to provide kinaesthetic learners with an active approach to pattern recognition

Top Teacher Tips:

  • 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins
  • 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play
  • 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task

Let’s Defend – Complete the Movement Pattern brings pattern recognition to life through motion, fun, and fast-paced decision-making, perfect for getting students thinking, moving, and defending their base!
