Description

These prompt cards are designed to engage your students in discussion about a given text. Practise identifying text structure and vocabulary, make connections with students’ own experiences and offer opinions on how to solve problems in the text. This resource is aligned with Science of Reading and is the perfect accompaniment to orally retold stories in the early years.

Use these cards as a whole class mat activity, in a small group setting or as individual prompts. Each card colour is focused on a different skill or text element:

Purple – Characters

Blue – Settings and Plot

Green – Personal Connections to Story

Yellow – Vocabulary

Red – Phonemic Awareness

Choose the set that best suits your learning intention or mix sets to broadly target all skills. You can allow students to randomly select prompts, or why not target student ability and development with specific cards and sets?

Print in colour on thick card for best results and reusability.
