Description

This comprehensive set of worksheets has been designed to guide your students through the process of planning, carrying out and evaluating an investigation into electrical conductivity. Aligned with the Year 6 Science Understanding and Inquiry skills, these worksheets allow the students to explore the properties of materials that conduct and insulate electricity. Your students can build circuits to test a range of different materials. Suggested equipment for each group includes a cell, bulb, ammeter, wires and a range of everyday conducting and insulating items. Examples of items that conduct electricity include a key, coin, can, paperclip, screw, nail, lead pencil and pieces of metal. Insulators include an eraser, cork, piece of paper, candle, chalk, wood, water bottle and an elastic band. Four different types of graphing pages are included to help with differentiation. When you have decided which graph version to use, you can print it and the rest of the worksheets to complete with your students. Alternatively, the students could create their tables and graphs digitally. The evaluation worksheets feature thought-provoking questions that relate to Science as a Human Endeavour and prompt critical reflection on the significance of scientific knowledge and our safety. This resource is part of our Year 6 Physical Sciences UNIT PLAN.
