Description

Are you looking for an adorable craft to reinforce counting to 10 skills? Our Counting Crab Feet craft is the resource for you! This cute craft is ideal to completed after reading the picture book, One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab by April Pulley Sayre and Jeff Sayre.

Students will create a cute crab with 10 ‘feet’ using the template pieces. They will order numbers 1-10 on the crab’s feet. Students will count the feet and record the total on the inside of the crab.

While completing the craft, students will have the opportunity to practise counting skills, including recognising numbers, one-to-one correspondence, ordering numbers, counting collections and representing numbers. In addition, they will utilise their fine motor skills as they cut, assemble and accordion fold the template pieces. The action of folding the paper legs back and forth to create an accordion fold will develop students' fine motor skills, specifically their finger strength, dexterity and coordination. Your students will love the challenge of manipulating the paper by pinching, pressing and aligning the edges to make precise folds. These skills are essential building blocks for completing tasks that require precise hand movements, such as drawing, crafting, tying shoelaces and completing puzzles.

This amazing resource includes:

  1. Detailed instructions with examples of the finished craft.
  2. Crab template pieces (including numbered and blank feet).
  3. A colourful banner for displaying the completed crafts!

We recommend printing the crab body pages back-to-back. Alternatively, they can be glued together or the inside of the folded outer body can be written on. In addition to printing the included templates, you will need to provide craft glue, sticky tape, red or orange pipe cleaners (cut in half or thirds) and writing utensils.

To turn this gorgeous craft into an eye-catching display by hanging the completed crabs alongside the included banner!

This resource is part of our One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab: Maths Book PACKAGE.
