Looking for a crafty way to check your students’ counting skills? Then you need our dazzling Counting Crowns craft! In addition to practising key counting concepts, this hands-on activity allows students to practise their fine motor skills as they count and glue a collection of jewels to a crown template. They can then record their total number of jewels on our handy recording headband! This resource includes:

We recommend printing the crown and headband strap templates onto yellow cardstock. Print the jewel templates on different coloured paper. In addition, we have included a mixed jewels page that can be printed on white paper for students to colour in themselves. If your students are not ready for intricate cutting, have them colour the background of their cut-out jewels in yellow to match the crown template. Alternatively, have students glue other craft items to decorate their crown that they can count, such buttons, sequins, rhinestones and stickers. Top Teacher Tip: There are many ways you can extend your students' learning while they are wearing their counting crowns. For example, you could have students order themselves in a line based on the number of jewels they have. Or you could pose questions, such as:

1. How many jewels do you have?
2. How many jewels does your friend have?
3. Who has more/less/the same amount of jewels as you?
4. Who has the most/least jewels in the class?
5. How many red/green/blue jewels do you have?
6. What colour jewel do you have the most/least?
7. If you had one more red jewel, how many would you have altogether?
