This engaging hands-on activity is designed to help students practise identifying and applying medial vowel sounds in CVC words. Using a fun donut theme, students will complete words by adding the correct missing vowel sound. How to Complete

1. Print the donut cards and medial sound mats on thick card. Cut out the donut cards, including the hole in the centre.
2. Students will select a donut card with a missing vowel sound and place it on their medial sound mat, determining which vowel will make the donut a complete CVC word. Some donuts may allow for multiple correct answers. Students can use the recording sheet to record the words they create.

Additional Tips

1. Encourage students to say the word aloud while placing the correct vowel to reinforce phonemic awareness.
2. Encourage students to test different possibilities before deciding on the word they will record.
