Description
Let’s head to the Robot Factory! In this fun and interactive digital game, students will mix and match various robot body parts as they work their way through a series of engaging multiple-choice questions. With each correct answer, they’ll apply their understanding of decimal multiplication and division, especially by powers of ten, while earning new robot pieces to build their very own high-tech creation!
This game is a fantastic way to reinforce numeracy concepts in a hands-on, visual format. Students will solve problems involving multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100, and 1000, and use estimation or rounding to check the reasonableness of their answers. For example: “What is the product of 6.8 and 1000?” This process strengthens number sense and deepens understanding of place value shifts.
Let’s Build – Decimal Multiplication & Division can be played as a whole-class activity on an interactive whiteboard, making it perfect for warm-ups or revision, or students can scan the QR code to play independently. It’s ideal for numeracy rotations, early finishers, and targeted intervention.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- ✅ Multiply and divide decimals by powers of ten (10, 100, 1000)
- ✅ Recognise and apply place value patterns in decimal operations
- ✅ Estimate and round to check the reasonableness of answers
- ✅ Strengthen mental computation and number fluency
- ✅ Engage in interactive, self-paced learning with immediate feedback
How to Play:
- Students read each decimal question and select the correct answer from multiple-choice options.
- Each correct answer unlocks a robot part to add to their custom-built creation.
- Once they’ve completed their robot, students get to watch their creation celebrate with a fun dance party!
- Replay the game to build new robot combinations and reinforce their understanding of decimals.
Ideas for Classroom Use:
- 💡 Use it on the interactive whiteboard for whole-class revision of decimal strategies
- 💡 Add to numeracy rotations as a focused fluency task for Year 5–6 students
- 💡 Follow up with hands-on place value chart tasks to show the effect of multiplying or dividing by powers of ten
- 💡 Encourage replay to improve accuracy and speed with mental strategies
Top Teacher Tips:
- 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task
- 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six robot characters before the game begins
- 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play
Let’s Build – Decimal Multiplication & Division brings high-level maths skills to life through creative gameplay, giving students the chance to practise, problem-solve, and power up their robots one part at a time!
