This resource provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of division concepts through mathematical modelling. They are required to interpret division word problems, write a matching number sentence, draw a diagram that represents the problem and show their working out.
In order for the students to complete this task, they must recognise which part of the problem is unknown: the number of groups or the number per group. To avoid confusion, it is recommended that students are modelled examples of both types of problems and have access to hands-on materials, such as counters, to assist them in their working out.
Worksheets 1 and 2 allow students to draw on their knowledge of related multiplication facts to solve the problems, while Worksheets 3 and 4 are better suited to students who can extend their problem-solving skills further.
Answer sheets have been included.
