Are your students learning about the solar system? Do you need a way to assess their understanding? Our Solar System Model Assessment is just what you need!

Created to coincide with the Year 2 Earth & Space Sciences Australian Curriculum, this assessment will provide students with the opportunity to represent and explain their understanding of the solar system.

We have included two options for your students to show their understanding:

1. Students can create a mobile of the solar system. They will paint and assemble the Sun and planet pieces before hanging them from string below the included mobile template. In addition, they can share their knowledge of the solar system and the planets’ movement around the Sun on the included writing template.
2. Students can create a poster of the solar system. They will paint and glue the planets onto a backing template, showing their order from the Sun. In addition, they can share their knowledge of the solar system and the planets’ movement around the Sun on the included writing template.

Top Teacher Tips:

1. Print the solar system pieces onto coloured cardstock for a pop of colour.
2. For a textured effect, have students paint the planets by dabbing the paintbrush rather than using strokes.
