Description

Our Easter Egg Tracing resource is designed to help young learners develop fine motor skills, pre-writing skills, and hand-eye coordination. This editable activity encourages students to practise using a pincer grip while controlling a pencil to trace and copy different types of lines and shapes, setting a foundation for letter formation and writing skills.

How to Complete

  1. Either print the scaffolded tracing template for students to trace and copy, the blank template for students to create their own patterns or the editable version where you can add your own combination of lines, shapes, patterns, letters, words or numbers for students to follow!
  2. Provide students with pencils, crayons or markers to complete their tracing. Alternatively, place the templates in write and wipe sleeves for students to trace with a dry-erase pen.
  3. Once complete, the eggs can be coloured in, cut out and put on display in your classroom. To create an eye-catching display, simply print one of our Easter banners to hang above or alongside the Easter eggs.

Additional Tips

  1. Model how to correctly hold a pencil prior to students completing the task.
  2. Remind students to take their time to increase accuracy.
  3. You might like to enlarge the template to A3 for younger students.
  4. Encourage students to use a range of colours to trace their egg’s designs.
  5. Enhance the completed eggs by backing them on coloured cardstock or a cute piece of Easter paper. Alternatively, have students paint a piece of white card with edicol dye to make the colours pop.

Extension Ideas

  1. Sensory Tracing: Try using finger paint or sand trays to have students trace the patterns with their fingers.
  2. Gross Motor Adaptation: Create large-scale versions of the tracing lines and shapes and have students walk or jump along them for a fun movement activity.

This Easter tracing task is perfect for early learners working on their pre-writing and fine motor skills.
