This engaging Easter Roll & Cover game is a fun and interactive way to help students develop their doubling skills using the numbers 1-6 or 1-10. Designed for individual or small group play, this game provides the opportunity for students to roll a die, double the number and cover a matching Easter egg on their board.

How to Complete

To suit the needs of your class, this resource includes two sets of game boards: doubling to 12 and doubling to 20. Print your choice of game on thick card for durability and gather the required materials, including 6- or 10-sided dice and small items for covering the eggs on the game boards, such as counters, pom poms, mini Easter eggs, Easter-themed erasers or small chicks. If using food items, be sure to check for any allergies.

1. To complete the activity, students will roll a die and double the number.
2. They will then look for an egg on their game board that matches their doubled number. If they find a match, they can cover it with a small item, such as a counter or small Easter chick.
3. If students cannot find a number on their board or the number is already covered, they lose that turn.
4. The first student to cover all the Easter eggs on their board wins!

Additional Tips

1. Encourage students to verbalise their thinking as they double the number.
2. Provide manipulatives, mini whiteboards, or number charts for additional support.
3. Younger students may benefit from having the game boards enlarged to A3.
4. For an additional sensory and fine motor element, have student roll small play dough ‘eggs’ to place on their board. If using this method, pop the game boards into write and wipe sleeves to keep them clean.

Extension Ideas

1. Introduce Multiplication Language: Reinforce that doubling is the same as multiplying by 2.
2. Apply to Real World Contexts: Relate doubling to real life scenarios, such as doubling recipes or counting items in pairs.
