Teaching Year 5 Economics and Business? Look no further than this Unit Plan!

This 8-lesson unit explores the concepts of natural, human and capital resources and the ways they are used to satisfy our needs and wants.

The unit plan package downloads as a zip file and contains the following resources:

1. Unit Guide: includes a scope and sequence, unit overview, lesson plans with associated resources, an assessment, rubrics, self-reflection templates, suggested resources and tiered vocabulary lists.
2. PowerPoint: provides supplementary information for each lesson, including scenarios and examples of natural, human and capital resources.
3. Displays: a unit banner, word wall cards and posters for natural, human and capital resources.

An assessment task called Tree House Island is included in the unit. The assignment has students establish the needs and wants of people on a fictional island. They look into the natural, human and capital resources they will need to source to meet these needs and wants and compare these resources based on their pros and cons. Student understanding can be assessed using the rubric included with the assessment task. (A blank rubric is also included).
