Description

Equal Chance Clash PowerPoint is a bright and interactive probability game designed to build student understanding of equal chance and comparative likelihood. Using colourful visuals and engaging comparisons, this activity helps students reason about probability in a way that is accessible, hands-on and fun.

In each slide, students view two cups containing coloured shapes. They must determine which cup gives the greatest chance of drawing a specific shape, or if both outcomes are equally likely. To answer, students select the correct comparative symbol: greater than (>), less than (<) or equal to (=).

This PowerPoint includes 12 probability comparisons that increase in complexity as the game progresses. It’s a great way to build mathematical reasoning and introduce key probability language. Use it as a whole-class warm-up, small group activity, or a partner-based exploration with counters and manipulatives.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Compare the probability of different outcomes using visual models
  • ✅ Identify when outcomes have equal chance
  • ✅ Apply symbols (<, >, =) to express probability comparisons
  • ✅ Strengthen reasoning and explanation using probability language

What’s Included:

  • 12-slide interactive PowerPoint game featuring visual probability scenarios
  • Coloured shapes in cups to visually represent probability comparisons
  • Click-to-reveal answers and increasing complexity throughout

Materials Needed:

  • Interactive whiteboard or classroom screen for whole-class use
  • Mini whiteboards or student notebooks for working out and recording responses
  • Counters or coloured shapes for modelling comparisons in small groups (optional)
  • Anchor chart displaying probability symbols and vocabulary (optional)

How to Use:

  1. Launch the PowerPoint in slideshow mode to enable interactive features.
  2. Display a slide and read the probability question aloud with your class.
  3. Students decide which cup has the higher, lower or equal chance of drawing the target shape.
  4. Ask students to show their answer using a symbol (<, >, =) or by voting as a class.
  5. Click to reveal the correct answer and discuss the reasoning behind it.

Ideas for Classroom Use:

  • 💡 Use as a warm-up during your probability unit to activate key vocabulary
  • 💡 Set up the slides in small group rotations with students using physical counters
  • 💡 Pair students to collaborate and defend their answers before revealing the slide
  • 💡 Create follow-up journal tasks where students sketch their own probability cups
  • 💡 Reinforce key terms like “equal chance” and “more likely” with classroom visuals

Top Teacher Tips:

  • 💛 Encourage students to justify their thinking using comparative language
  • 💛 Display the <, >, = symbols as a reference throughout the activity
  • 💛 Extend the challenge by having students create their own cup comparisons for classmates

Equal Chance Clash PowerPoint is the perfect tool for exploring probability comparisons with your students – combining critical thinking, maths symbols, and interactive fun all in one engaging digital activity.
