Resource, Worksheets & Activities

Description

Get your students hopping with excitement as they reinforce number knowledge from 0 to 10 using our hands-on Feed the Bunny Number Representation activity! This fun, interactive resource is designed to help students explore numbers in multiple ways through sorting, matching, and playful fine motor practise.

This activity invites students into a sensory-rich environment where they search for hidden carrots and match them to the correct number. By incorporating a variety of number representations, including digits, ten frames, tally marks and dot patterns, this resource supports students in making connections between different ways of showing numbers.

The bunny theme and tactile component make this perfect for numeracy rotations, intervention groups or even a themed maths corner. With opportunities for independent or paired play, this engaging game promotes early numeracy, problem-solving, and oral language as students explain their thinking and justify their matches.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • ✅ Recognise and match numbers from 0 to 10 in multiple forms
  • ✅ Strengthen one-to-one correspondence and number identification
  • ✅ Practise subitising and visual representation of quantities
  • ✅ Develop fine motor control through sorting, grasping and placing objects

What’s Included

  • Bunny templates with large, open mouths for feeding carrots
  • Carrot cards featuring varied number representations (digits, ten frames, tally marks, dot groups, and number words)
  • Instruction page for setup and use
  • Editable version to customise number range and formats

Materials Needed

  • Printed bunny and carrot templates
  • Small baskets or tubs (one per bunny)
  • Sensory tray filler (sand, coloured rice, shredded paper, chickpeas etc.)
  • Scissors and glue for setup
  • Optional: laminator for durability

How to Use

  1. Print and cut out the bunnies and carrots, laminating for durability if desired
  2. Attach each bunny to a container or basket so it appears to have an open mouth
  3. Scatter the carrot cards in a sensory tray with only the tops showing
  4. Students select a carrot and identify the number representation
  5. They then find and feed the bunny all matching carrots for that number

Ideas for Classroom Use

  • 💡 Add to a spring or Easter-themed numeracy centre
  • 💡 Use in small group rotations as a counting and sorting challenge
  • 💡 Pair students up to encourage collaborative thinking and communication
  • 💡 Provide clipboards and ask students to record the numbers they matched
