Figurative Language Hunt
Description
Help students identify authors’ use of vivid, emotive vocabulary, such as metaphors, similes, personification, idioms, imagery and hyperbole with this figurative language hunt.
Three versions of this activity include an example text for students to use to hunt for figurative language devices. They must identify the device used, describe the sentence's actual meaning, and then draw an image of what would be happening in the story if the sentence was taken literally.
A blank template has also been provided which can be adapted to be used with any classroom text of your choosing!
This resource works well as an independent task, post-assessment or paired investigation.
Reinforce this concept with our Figurative Language Bingo!
