Demonstrate mathematical modelling and an understanding of area and perimeter with this real-world maths task.

Students are tasked with fixing the farm, following the set requirements to create a new farm layout.

The task has three differentiated levels:

• Level 1: includes specific area or perimeter instructions, plenty of space remaining in layout.
• Level 2: instructions require some calculations.
• Level 3: includes reference to irregular shapes and multiple instructions requiring calculations.

A final Farming Supplies task is also included in the activity. Students will use the layout of their farm to determine the cost it would take to create the fencing and growing crops in each of the paddocks.

Choose to print the farm layout on A4 or A3 for a larger map. The farm requirements and farming supplies pages print two to an A4 page. Determine which versions you will be giving to students and print accordingly.
