Food Chain Tag Active Game
Description
Incorporate an active game into your science lessons when learning about food chains.
Students take on different roles in a food chain, each with different objectives. Balls/bean bags are placed within hula hoops to represent energy that will be transferred through the food chain.
- Grasshoppers – collect a leaf and try to survive the round
- Frogs – try to tag grasshoppers
- Snakes – try to tag frogs
- Eagles – try to tag snakes
- Toads – act like frogs but will cause a snake to be out when tagged.
The included scenario cards outline different combinations of animals to include in the round. There are 6 scenarios included, the last three explore when food chains become unbalanced.
Adapt the game as necessary with your class, increase or decrease the time of each round, and adjust the numbers of each animal in the round.
Print out the role tags on thick card to increase durability. Black and white versions are available if you wish to print on coloured paper. This resource is included in our Biological Sciences Year 4 UNIT PLAN.Additional information
