Food States of Matter Worksheet
Description
This worksheet is ideal to use when your students are learning about states of matter and food.
To start the activity, get your students to crush up 4-6 pitted olives in a pestle and mortar (or a sturdy cup and a teaspoon). Add a little bit of water to the mixture and allow your students to observe the layer of olive oil that forms on top.
Next, have them record information about the change of state on this worksheet, including particle diagrams and observable properties. The worksheet also requires the students to provide two different examples of changes of state that occur when preparing or cooking food and to consider why this scientific knowledge is useful. You can simply print the worksheet, gather the resources and begin the activity.
This resource is part of our Chemical Sciences Year 5 UNIT PLAN.
