Apply skills of addition and subtraction of fractions to create the fraction fortress paper craft.

Students will read differentiated instructions asking them to colour their fraction fortress in specific ways. Each set of instructions includes addition and subtraction problems with fractions.

Easily differentiate this activity by providing your students one of three instruction cards:

• Version 1 (page 3) - addition and subtraction of fractions with the same denominators.
• Version 2 (page 4) - same and related denominators, simplifying 5/10 to 1/2.
• Version 3 (page 5) - simplifying fractions other fractions and taking away from a whole number.

Each student will need their own fraction fortress template page and an instructions card. The instructions cards print two to a page. Easily check the version you are using by the indicated symbols in the top-right corner of the cards.
