Fraction Race: Halves, Quarters & Eighths is a hands-on and interactive game that challenges students to identify fractions of a collection and, where appropriate, equivalent fractions. Players will ‘race’ to fill their board with halves, quarters and eighths game pieces. They will take turns with a partner or in small groups to select a card from the pile. Students will identify the fraction on the card and place a game piece that matches the fraction on their board.  Strategy can be used because students can use equivalent fractions to their advantage. This resource includes high and low colour options. Printing the game board, game cards and game pieces on cardstock is recommended for longevity. The game cards and pieces must be cut out before playing. Velcro can also be attached to the middle of the circles on the game board and the back of the game board pieces, allowing students to attach their pieces when playing, ensuring none move (this is optional).
