Your students can learn about the captivating phenomenon of fruit and vegetable batteries with this assessment pack.   This download features a set of worksheets and accompanying assessment rubrics that are aligned with all three strands of the Australian Curriculum Science V9.   The worksheets provide a structure for planning, conducting and evaluating the investigation. The aim is to test different fruit and vegetable batteries to see whether they illuminate an LED and to measure the voltage that they produce.   Your students will need to use pieces of zinc (or galvanised nails), strips of copper (or copper wire), connecting wires, an LED and a voltmeter or multimeter to test the batteries. A range of acidic fruits and vegetables work well for this investigation. It is recommended to use at least three of each type as a battery; otherwise, the voltage may be too low to light up the LED or produce a reading on the measuring equipment.   Four different types of graphing pages are included to help with differentiation. When you have decided which graph version to use, you can print it and the rest of the worksheets for your students to complete. Alternatively, the students could create their tables and graphs digitally.   This resource is part of our Year 6 Physical Sciences UNIT PLAN.
