Description

This listening activity will have students follow verbal instructions to explore and identify gender stereotypes. The template evolves as students listen to the instructions on where to cut and how to assemble.

Students will identify common stereotypes of boys and girls and any that overlap. The top labels will then be cut off, and the template will be turned into a tube. The labels will then be wrapped around the tube so that they are able to rotate freely. Now the words that were associated with each gender will not necessarily be labelled to that gender, encouraging discussion as to why stereotypes can be inaccurate and sometimes harmful.

This activity is designed to be completed as a whole class or small guided groups. It requires someone to be giving verbal instructions on page one; this can be a teacher or an assigned leader.

Choose to print the instruction page or use it digitally on your interactive whiteboard.

This resource is part of the Years 3 & 4 Identities and Change Unit.
