Description

This fun, hands-on resource is a great way to help develop oral language skills in the early years. With a specific focus on developing descriptive and receptive language, this game is the perfect addition to an Early Years or Foundation classroom. This resource is a ‘celebrity head’ style game with headbands and cards. Suitable for both EYLF and F-1, include in your rotations, as a whole class game, or for children who aren’t typically motivated by ‘sit down’ activities. This resource helps develop the following skills:
  1. Oral language skills. Students will be invited to use descriptive language to describe the physical features of the community helper on their card and ask questions to help them narrow down the possibilities.
  2. Problem-solving skills. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking skills to eliminate possibilities and make informed guesses based on the information they have gathered.
  3. Listening skills. They must listen carefully to the descriptions given by their classmates to help them eliminate possibilities and make informed guesses.
  4. Social skills: Playing this game encourages them to work collaboratively, take turns, and engage in respectful communication with their peers.
  5. Cognitive skills: Students will need to use their memory, attention to detail, and visual discrimination skills in order to identify the celebrity on their card.
With detailed ‘how to use’ instructions, print 2 to a page for an engaging, hands-on way to develop and refine a variety of skills.
