Celebrate Mother’s Day with this fun teddy bear-themed card! Students will enjoy the interactive element of tracing their handprints to create an adorable heart-hugging bear that can be added to the front of their card before writing a meaningful message inside.

How to Complete

This versatile activity includes multiple options to suit the needs of your class. Choose whether you want your students to make their cards with the fun handprint bear or a bear cut out. If you are short on time, simply use our ready-to-go bear card cover templates!

1. Print your chosen card cover and message templates on white cardstock. Provide assorted A4 coloured card, and if using the handprint teddy bear, provide brown cardstock for tracing.
2. Have students trace their hands on brown cardstock (ensure their tracing line is much wider than their hands to ensure their teddies are not too narrow). Cut out the handprint.
3. Trim and fold the fingers and thumb to create bear ears and arms. Decorate the bear with a face and a heart on its tummy.
4. Provide students with A4 coloured card and fold in half. Glue the card cover on the front and the message template inside for students to complete. Attach the handprint bear (or teddy bear cut out) to the front and add the bear’s feet.
5. Encourage students to leave the bear’s arms unglued so they can open and close over the heart.

Additional Tips

1. As an alternative to students’ handprints, use either the teddy bear card cover or teddy bear cut outs. The arms on the teddy cut outs can also be folded to look like it is holding a heart!
2. If the card cover templates were printed on white cardstock, you might like students to add colour with paint or edicol dye.
3. Provide craft items, such as googly eyes, pom poms, sequins and stickers. For a sensory element, cut hearts from felt to give the teddy bear a soft tummy.
4. Younger students may benefit from the templates being enlarged to A3.
