In need of a Health unit teaching Years 3 & 4 Identities and Change? This is it!

Aligned to V9 of the Australian Curriculum, this 8-lesson unit explores the concept of identities and change through unique hands-on activities, including board games, craft activities, templates and more. Your students will investigate how success, challenge, setbacks and failure strengthen resilience and identities in a range of contexts. They will also plan, rehearse and reflect on strategies to cope with the different changes and transitions they experience, as well as learn to describe how choices and actions can be influenced by stereotypes.

The unit plan package downloads as a zip file and contains the following resources:

1. Unit Guide: includes a scope and sequence, unit overview, lesson plans with associated resources, assessments, rubrics, self-reflection and peer feedback templates, suggested resources and tiered vocabulary lists.
2. PowerPoint: provides supplementary information for each lesson, including interactive elements associated with the ‘Stick in There – Whole Class Resilience Game’.
3. Displays: a unit banner, definition posters for influences of identity, a gender stereotypes display and word wall cards.

An assessment task and student tracking sheet are included in this unit. The assessment task has students create a board game to demonstrate their understanding of the content throughout the unit. During each lesson, students can demonstrate their understanding through the lessons’ activities and by creating a question-and-answer card for their final board game assessment piece. Student understanding can be tracked using the tracking sheet as well as the assessment task’s rubric.
