Description

First Nations Australians are advised that this task is based on stories of the Stolen Generations.

Help your students develop their understanding of the Stolen Generations and comprehension skills with the Heroes & Villains task, which they will complete following their viewing of the film, ‘Rabbit-Proof Fence’. This film is rated PG. Therefore, we advise seeking parental permission before showing it to your class.

This task gives your students the opportunity to explore the portrayal of heroes and villains in a realistic setting. They will complete profiles of the Molly and Mr A.O. Neville characters from the film, including examples of their actions, feelings and words. Students will then illustrate each character and reflect upon why Molly is a hero in the story.

A blank version of this resource, which can be used with a text of your choice, has been included.

If you require alternate texts related to the Stolen Generations, see the list below. While these texts can be used across year levels, consider the needs of your class before using a text recommended for an older age group. Please note that some of these suggestions may not suit the requirements of this particular task.
