Support your Year 3 students in their learning of HASS: History, with the Community News Report Assessment task.

Created to coincide with Year 3 History Australian Curriculum, this activity will provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the causes and effects of changes to local communities.

Students can use sources, such as books and websites to locate information about their local community. They will use the My Community Research worksheets to record their findings. Students will be guided by set questions as well as questions they have developed to discover features that have stayed the same or changed over time. They will also investigate the causes and effects of these changes. Blank and lined versions of these worksheets have been included.

Students will share their research in the form of a news report, using the Community News Report worksheets and/or Community News Report Palm Cards. In their news report script, students will describe the features of their community and how they have stayed the same or changed over time. Multiple versions of these templates, including blank and lined versions, have been included.

Teachers can assess this task using the Community News Report Assessment Rubric. A blank version of this document has also been included.
