This eye-catching Christmas-themed craft is based on the book The Christmas Star by Michelle Conn. Your students will love creating their own mini Christmas tree costumes, just like the one worn by Timmy in the story!

Using the provided templates and photos of your students’ smiling faces, students will cut and assemble their mini Christmas tree costumes. Please note that the circle on the tree templates will need to be cut out ahead of time. We recommend an adult does this with a craft knife.

The templates can either be printed on coloured or white card. If printing on white, provide time for your students to either paint or colour in the pieces before cutting and assembling. Once the tree and star are assembled, students will add the arm, leg and boot pieces. They will then flip the trees over to add their photo so it can be seen through the hole in the tree.

Finally, students can add decorations to the tree, such as sparkly pipe cleaners as tinsel, beads or sequins as lights and small pom poms as ornaments. In addition, they can add biodegradable gold glitter to the star at the top of the tree. The completed Christmas trees can be left as is or glued to a piece of coloured cardstock and trimmed, leaving a colourful border. To create an eye-catching display of the completed crafts, showcase them around the included banner!
